I went to the DMV last week Totally routine paperwork to get the RealID star and that brutally honest camera they use that somehow makes everyone look slightly guilty.
Five years ago, I sat in that same spot for my last license photo.
When the new license cane in the mail today, I pulled out the old card and put them side by side.
That’s when it hit me.
It wasn’t the number on the scale. I honestly don’t even remember what I weighed back then.
It was my face.
The puffiness is gone. My jawline is sharper. My eyes look clearer. Even my posture is different.
No pump. No good lighting. No flexing. No influencer filters.
Just five years of small, mostly unsexy decisions: lifting consistently, riding the bike, eating like an adult, sleeping better.
Most guys judge progress by the scale, their abs or their lab numbers. Those matter. But they don’t tell the whole story.
The DMV doesn’t care what you bench.
It just captures who you’ve become.
So here’s a better measure of progress: would you rather look like your license photo from five years ago… or the one you’d take today?
